The Social Retail Supply Chain - Interview
Reviewing Retail Universe? from SPS Commerce, I was very interested to see where this “infant project” (only announced November 7, 2011) was headed. I had the good fortune to talk with the real expert: Eric Chaffee, SPS Commerce's Director of Product Management. Retail Universe? (RU) is becoming a “social networking site”, like LinkedIn, etc.; but with a focus on retail industry, suppliers and logistics providers. |

Finding A 3PL Logistics Provider
I recently wrote about an interview I had with SPS Commerce concerning their Retail Universe? online community for trading partners. Subsequently I had a “real world” request from a client to find a 3PL to handle trucking and warehousing in southern Indiana. WOW! A real test for the power of RU! |

Contingent Workers
We used to call them “temps”. Some were remote workers. They didn't usually have very glamorous jobs. They used to do things like maintain “legacy” systems. All this is changing; and it is being pushed by both the companies and the workers. |

ec-bp.com The Forum for Supply Chain Integration
ec-bp was established in 2005 as the advocate for lowering the barriers to the adoption of EDI, and our email newsletter has been published every month since that time. Our focus has expanded beyond EDI to encompas the full gamut of supply chain practices and technologies. In addition, our readership has grown to become the largest of any similarly focused publication, and has expanded to include more than 90,000 professionals involved in nearly every aspect of the supply chain. Today’s supply chain is more than simple transport of EDI documents. The complexity of maintaining compliance with trading partners, managing the ever increasing amount of data, and analyzing that data to drive constant improvement in processes and service take supply chain professionals far beyond the basics of mapping EDI documents. |

Selecting SCM Systems
In a recent article Supply Chain Management as a Service (SCMaaS), a couple of interesting comments came up: (1) are there end-to-end applications available or just the sort of point solutions you've listed? Based on your broad definition of the supply chain, it would almost seem that a broad solution would be a cloud-based ERP; (2) are there vendors that focus on the planning side? The vendors you describe seem to be on the execution part of the process. |

Required Attire for a Remote Workforce
Ever wonder how your telecommuting colleagues really live? Turns out, many of them actually do work in their pajamas. They also tend to love their work-life balance – to the point where they’d take a pay cut to maintain the status quo. This is a “must read” for both remote workers and for their office-bound managers. |

Social Media and CRM
Social media make the customer more powerful than ever. Companies must re-learn how to listen and react. The customer is always right is one of the two ”commandments” of a super market chain in Connecticut. Their second commandment is “see rule number one”. Anyone who does not take this seriously will not do well on social networking platforms where customers have not only a louder voice, but also can be heard around the World in minutes. Social Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is real time. It is not only complaints and questions, it is compliments and sales leads too. Over the last few years, we brought conventional CRM into the world of technology: alignment of help desk, marketing, customer service and business policies. We are able to attract new customers and satisfy current customers. Social CRM is just continuing what we do now, but adding in social platforms. Social CRM just forces everything out in the open. So all we really need to do is add social technologies to our tool bag. |
