Mandelieu La Napoule

Ideally located in the center of the French Riviera, Mandelieu La Napoule invites you to enjoy its natural heritage. Situated next to Cannes at equal distance from Saint Tropez and the Italian border. This top-of-the-range sea resort is affordable to everyone thanks to various types of accommodation, catering and activities.

Mandelieu La Napoule is situated on the Cote d’Azur, on the outskirts of Cannes, between the Esterel Massif and the Tanneron woodlands.
Mandelieu Royal Casino

Mandelieu Royal Casino
The Sofitel Cannes Mandelieu Royal Casino is a distinctly contemporary luxury resort in an ideal location right on the waterfront, looking out to sea. 15 min from La Croisette and the Palais des Festivals. 213 spacious rooms and suites with private terrace. 2 restaurants, piano bar, 1500 sqm of meeting rooms, casino (200 slot machines), private beach, pool, sauna, hammam, tennis courts, golf course just across from the hotel. 5 min from Cannes Mandelieu Airport, 25 min from Nice International Airport.
Chateau La Napole Mandelieu-la-Napoule is located on the French Riviera just to the southwest of Cannes and northeast of Théoule-sur-Mer. It is known for the Chateau of La Napoule, a fortified castle of the 14th century which was the property of the Counts of Villeneuve until the revolution. In the 20th century, Henry and Marie Clews, a couple from a wealthy New York banking family, renovated the castle, which they then inhabited. Henry was a painter and sculptor whose work still fills the castle, which is now run as a non-profit arts foundation by his descendents.

The population of Mandelieu-la-Napoule is less than 20,000. Port de La Napoule is one of the largest marinas in the south of France and there are numerous sailing schools as well as ferry services to the Îles de Lérins and St Tropez.

La Napoule is home to two of France’s best golf courses and most of the town’s hotels offer packages including accommodation and green fees. The “Old Course” which was built in 1891 is one of the oldest courses in France.

In an gorgeous setting, surrounded by hills, Mandelieu is just a mile inland from La Napoule. The town is famous for its yellow Mimosa which covers the surrounding hills. This is celebrated every February with the Mimosa Festival. Mandelieu is very much a commercial centre and is the base for many high tech companies. The town has its own airport which is second in size only to Nice. The hills around Mandelieu are ideal for hiking, horse riding and mountain biking and provide the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the coast.

Cagnes-Sur-Mer

An attractive destination at the heart of the French Riviera (between Nice and Cannes), Cagnes-sur-Mer invites you to discover its authentic medieval village, but also its small picturesque fishing port and its Renoir Museum nestled in a magnificent estate planted with ancient olive trees. Rocked by the waves under the sun of the Mediterranean, Cagnes-sur-Mer is a city with multiple faces which carries you away to the rhythm of its celebrations and events (Voices of the Renoir’s land, Medieval Festival…), its colourful markets, its numerous water sports and seaside facilities, its horse racing season… which all contribute to make Cagnes-sur-Mer an important stop on the French Riviera.

Within the Chateau is the arresting Donation Suzy Solidor, thirties Parisien cabaret singer as painted by fory different artists of the pedigree of Cocteau and Lempicka.
Haute de Cagnes

Haute de Cagnes

Haute de Cagnes is a village in Alpes Maritimes. It amounts to the medieval origin of the Cagnes settlement and nestles around an imposing medieval castle once owned by the Grimaldi dynasty (the Royal family of Monaco). The picture perfect village has been maintained successfully over the years and offers an alternative to the concrete of the modern French Riviera.

Passing through Cros-de-Cagnes, Cagnes-Ville, or Cagnes-sur-Mer you will catch a fleeting glimpse on the skyline of the rising battlements of the Chateau Grimaldi, crowning the medieval bourg of Haut-de-Cagnes.
Lower Cagnes is a busy commercial centre with little to commend it. Ugly apartment blocks, no grace or style. The seaside Cagnes-sur-Mer is a very modest resort, largely spoilt by the constant noisy flow of speeding cars. Small wonder Cagnes is unloved, and people pass on by.

Wrong. If you make the effort, you will find in Haut-de-Cagne the most wonderful unspoilt fortified medieval village, mercifully preserved from mass tourism as submerges St Paul or Eze. Its winding twisting alleys and densely packed bijou terraced houses are beautifully preserved by their priviledged contemporary occupants.

The walk from Cros-de-Cagnes is a fierce upward climb that would test the cardiovascular fitness of an athelete. So the Bourg thoughtfully provides a Navette Gratuite - a free 12 seater minibus service four times an hour - that will take you the two kilometres from the Cagnes "Gare Routiere" up to Haut-de-Cagnes in ten minutes flat. The journey is thrills and spills itself as many of the narrow lanes into the town allow only inches either side for the coach.

Once offloaded at the Chateau Grimaldi, your exploration begins.

Dating back to the middle ages, some houses here proudly display their origin as 1315, and are immaculately restored for contemporary living. Hardly more than the odd solitary tourist is to be seen. Real people live here because they have chosen to. Many of the homes have rear gardens which enjoy completely private uninterrupted views out over the Var or the Med below. There is the odd artists atelier studio, but little or no commercialisation in evidence. Just a handful of excellent bar/ restaurants at the foot of the Chateau frequented by locals and those in the know, perfect for a calm Sunday lunch.
Suzy Solidor Suzy Solidor

Early in 1930 she became a popular singer and opened a chic nightclub called Boite de Nuit.

One of the singer's most famous publicity maneuvers was to become heralded as the "most painted woman in the world". She posed for some of the best known artists of the day including Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Her stipulation for sitting was that she would be given the paintings to hang in her club and by this time she had accumulated thirty-three portraits of herself. Boite de Nuit became one of the trendiest night spots in Paris.

In 1960 she moved Cagnes-sur Mer, where she opened a cabaret in the medieval Grimaldi Chateau and decorated it with 225 of her portraits.

Festival Boats at Harbor in Cros-de-Cagnes Festival Boats at Harbor in Cros-de-Cagnes section of Cagnes-sur-Mer. This area has a great beach and a beautiful marina.
Hippodrome de La Cote d’Azur. This is France’s second most visited race course and hosts meetings all year round. In the summer months, racing takes place in the evening and this is particularly nice way to spend the evening after a day on the beach or exploring nearby towns.
St Tropez International tourist mecca, St. Tropez's mythical tame has played a large part in the renown of the whole Côte d' Azur.

The world's most rich and famous have found escape in St. Tropez for centuries. Icons Brigitte Bardot and artist Henri Matisse helped spread word of the unbridled, isolated luxury of France's southern peninsula.

 Railroad Viaduct, Grasse, France postcard

Railroad Viaduct, Grasse, France postcard
View is the Viaduct and hotels at Les Gorges du Loup between Grasse and Vence. Some tall stubs of the pillars are all that remain here.

Yes, Grasse, the "Perfume Capital of the World" once boasted two railroads!

A network of 1-meter railways was built in the South of France at the end of the 19th century, run by the Chemins de Fer du Sud de la France (S.F.), later to become the Compagnie des chemins de fer de la Provence (C.P.).

Nice-Meyrargues was the central section, running across the departments of the Var and the Alpes Maritimes, from Meyragues, via Draguignan and Grasse, to Colomars at the Var river, where it connected with the Nice-Digne section. Going East from Draguignan, the rail line passed through Peymeinade and into Grasse. Southwest of Grasse, past Peymeinade, the tall stone pillars of the broken railway viaduct are visable. Signs of the old railway line exist in the roads passing directly through Grasse. Where the Route de Draguignan arrives at a round-about near St Jacques Stadium, a narrow road follows the railway line east to join the Grasse-Cannes road a fountain-round-about. At that point, the west-bound road passes (one-way) through the old railway tunnel before arriving at the round-about. East-bound, the road follows the old railway line all the way to Chateauneuf-Grasse, passing through one tunnel along the way. Past Chateauneuf-Grasse, the former railway line passed through Bar-sur-Loup, Pont-du-Loup, Tourrettes-sur-Loup and Vence. From Chateauneuf to Pont-du-Loup, the road passes beside several sets of broken viaducts. Arriving close to Vence, the road joins the old railway line to cross a long railway bridge and continue into the town along the former right-of-way.
Moustiers

Moustiers-Ste-Marie sits below a narrow notch at the base of rocky cliffs. Above the village, the Notre-Dame de Beauvoir chapel sits high in the notch, behind the ruins of the ancient defensive walls, and hidden in the shadows for most of the day.

Moustiers-Ste-Marie is a lovely village, in a gorgeous setting. It's there for tourists, though, so don't expect a "natural" Provencal village. A small "train" provides guided tours of the village and surrounding points of interest.

The main theme of Moustiers is to sell the, admittedly beautiful, "faïence" ceramics, and the village is packed full of Faïenceries shops.
Situated just over 4 km from Grasse and 21 km from Cannes, Châteauneuf-de-Grasse is a pretty perched medieval village and rather sought after. Within easy reach of Nice airport located only 34 km away, it is in close proximity to Sophia-Antipolis - the large sprawling techno park. Like Opio, Valbonne and Le Rouret it has a large Anglophile contingent.
Located 13km from Grasse, just over 40km from Nice airport and under 30km from Cannes, Gourdon is one of those magical perched French villages that would be a shame to miss. At an altitude of some 760 metres, it sits on the edge of a rocky spur that juts out about 500m directly above the Loup river where the Gorges du Loup comes out at the Pont-du-Loup village.

Protected by a cliff on its southern side, the village became fortified stretching its walls up to the mountains. At the end of the village, crossed by narrow streets, la Place Victoria looms over the hamlet of Pont-du-Loup where plants are grown for the perfume distilleries of Grasse.
Welcome to Saint-Paul de Vence, the most beautiful village ...of the world !

The little town of St-Paul-de-Vence, which has managed to retain its medieval character, is attractively situated on a hill 3km/2mi to the south of Vence. The well-preserved circle of rampart-walls, dating from the 16th Century, is provided with sturdy reinforcing supports on the steep slopes; there is also a government defense tower. In the early 13th Century church can be seen a fine treasury with silver-work, reliquaries and a ciborium dating from 1439. In the Place de la Fontaine (with a fountain) stands the Musée Provençal. In the 1920s St Paul was "discovered" by painters such as Signac, Modigliani and Bonnard.
Cannes, France (from Google Earth)

Cannes, France (from Google Earth)

Cannes is world-wide known thanks to the International Film Festival, its luxury hotels and its prestigious guests: beautiful people stars, starlets, exotic kings, queens and princesses, in one word all the jet-set society.

Cannes is also a glamour and gorgeous town. The old-town is crammed with luxury shops, especially Antibes street. It is a paradise for chic and expensive items: there are plenty of magnificent jewelry shops, art galleries, clothing shops of the greatest fashion designers (Chanel, Yves Saint-Laurent, Vuitton) and even a Rolls Royce dealer.

One of the characteristic of Cannes is the number of historical luxury hotels, almost all of them are on the Croisette. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, they are all architectural treasures in front of the turquoise Mediterranean and sandy white beaches. The Carlton or the Martinez have private beaches, large pools, solariums, delightful bars and restaurants; actually, all you can dream of.
Let's not forget the casino which have been recently renovated and where you can play, eat and dance from 10 AM till 5 AM. Once in a year, in May, the International Film Festival and the International movie market take place and all the city is in a turmoil. It is the perfect moment to see or even meet film producers and stars. All the world of movie surges in the city bringing a swirl of specks, strasses, limousines and beauty.

On the other hand, Cannes is also a typical Southern France's city with its markets, succulent food, beautiful panoramas and squares, an old-harbor living by fishing. The countryside just inland from Cannes is bustling with magnificent places. Grasse, International capital of perfume, is just a few miles away. Saint-Tropez, Antibes and Saint-Raphael are nearby.
