The ski resort of L'Audibergue is situated in the Monts d'Azur area of the Alpes Maritimes department in the Southern Alps region. It is the most southerly station in the French Alps being located just behind Grasse in the Cote d'Azur. It consists of a chair lift and seven drag lifts located on the north side of a small mountain ridge. From the summit the Mediterranean and the seaside town of Cannes are clearly visible. |

Conventional wisdom would dictate that the Alpes Maritimes (Maritimes Alps) are too close to the mild climate of the
Cote d'Azur to offer any serious winter skiing. However the mountains receive large amounts of precipitation and high altitude
resorts such as Isola 2000 are usually open until the end of April. Some tiny, charming resorts offering good value
lift passes can also be found.
The largest resorts in the region are Isola 2000, Auron and Valberg/Beuil but there are many small resorts that offer competitively priced lift passes and are in easy reach for a day or weekend trip. The département has a long association with the sport of skiing and the first ski club, "Ski Club des Alpes Maritimes" was founded in 1909 by Victor de Cessole, from Nice, who spent much of his life conquering these tough mountains. The first ski competition was organised that same year at Turini-Camp d’Argent. The first mechanical lift was installed in Valberg in 1936 and nearby Auron followed a year later. The last major development was Isola 2000, planned at the end of the 1960s, it was the dream of Peter Boumphrey, a British ski champion. There are 465 peaks over 2,000 meters in the region with, towards the Italian border, six peaks standing over 3,000 metres. There are over 700 km of pistes, including 231 set out for cross country skiing enthusiasts. Ski mountaineers and back country skiers are not missed, there are 465 peaks reaching over 2000 meters, and along the border with Italy six peaks soar to over 3,000 meters. It is this high border that traps moist air moving up from the Mediterranean sea. The nearest resorts of Greolieres les Neiges and la Colmiane are only 45 minutes from Nice airport. Isola is 90 minutes by car. You can charter a helicopter from Nice to any of the resorts, the cost is around 850 Euros for a party of 5 for the 20 minute ride to Isola or Auron. Further a field le Val d'Allos is situated at the head of the wild and remote Var valley, some two hours drive. |

Valberg is located in the French Alps 86 km from Nice (1hour 15 min drive), at an altitude of 1700 m.

Nice is a great base for skiing. Local ski resorts in the Southern French Alpes are Isola 2000, Valberg, Auron, Greolieres,
and some smaller ones. The closest is Isola 2000, about 60 miles and one and a half hours drive (2 hours on the skibus)
You can take the skibus from the centre of Nice to Isola 2000 for 29 euros (2007 prices) for a day return including the ski pass. You can also take a regular bus, the TAM 750 to Isola 2000 from the Gare Routiere in Nice for a day trip skiing. IT IS ONLY 1 EURO! TAM 730 is NiceSt-Martin-Vésubie; 740 is Nice St-Etienne-de-Tinée Auron; 770 is Nice Beuil Valberg. TAM busses are operated by the Conseil général des Alpes-Maritimes. You will need to buy a pass once you are there. There are coaches to other ski resorts from the Nice Cote d'Azur airport |

The ski resort of Auron is situated in the Mercantour area of the Alpes Maritimes department in the Southern Alps region.
It is part of the Mercantour ski domain and shares a joint lift pass with neighbour Isola 2000 across the valley.
The lift served area extends from 1600 metres to 2450 metres. There are 135 km of lift served runs divided between 2 greens, 16 blues, 15 reds and 9 blacks. There are also 8 off piste itineraries routes. Nearest Airport(s): Nice - 90km 1h15 by road. Road: Nice > N202 > Vallée de la tinée > D2205 > St Etienne de Tinée > D39 > Auron A good plan, especially when it is snowing, is to take the la pinatelle cable car from St Etienne. The ski resort of Isola 2000 is situated in the Mercantour area of the Alpes Maritimes department in the Southern Alps region.
It is part of the Mercantour ski domain. The lift served area extends from 2000 metres to 2603 metres.
There are 120 km of lift served runs. The resort features a snowpark. Isola has a good snow record and is normally
open from December until the end of April. This offers the possibility of a dip in the Med before skiing in the afternoon.
The development of Isola 2000 was unique amongst the ski resorts in the Alpes Maritimes. Valberg, Auron and the other smaller resorts were built around existing communities and evolved gradually. Isola, on the other hand, was a new development that was supposed to bring jobs to the community and rival the mega resorts of the Savoie. The site of Isola 2000 is situated 16km from the village. | The small ski resort of Gréolières les Neiges is situated in the Alpes Maritimes department in the Southern Alps. The lift served area extends from 1400 metres to 1800 metres. There are 9 Green runs, 3 Blue, 15 Red and 3 Black. The resort located just 45 km from Antibes and Nice and is just 20km from the coast. The proximity of the Mediterranean sea means that the season is shorter than other local resorts such as Isola 2000 but 7 pistes are covered by snow canons ensuring a Christmas opening. The slopes are situated on a north facing bowl which means the pistes can get quite hard and are in shadow by the early afternoon. |
| Situated in the Mercantour national park La Colmaine is a pleasant but small family resort. Snow cover can be a bit lacking due to the proximity of the Mediterranean sea and the maximum altitude of 1800 meters. |

| The ski resort of Roubion les Buisses is situated in the Alpes Maritimes mountains in the Southern Alps region. The lift served area extends from 1410 metres to 1920 metres. The 19 main pistes cover 30 km including a mogul run! These are served by six drag lifts and 1 chair. The ski runs are divided into 2 green runs, 4 blues, 11 reds and a couple of blacks. There are also 12 km of cross country trails. The ski area is split over 3 peaks. The slopes are varied and interesting. A day pass currently costs 14 € for adults (2005-6 season). There is snow making at the bottom of the ski runs. |
